WH Smith launches Kobo Vox e-reader

WH Smith has launched a new Kobo e-reader featuring a multi-media touch screen and social media tools.

The Kobo Vox, priced at £169.00 and available from today at 650 WH stores and online, has a 7-inch anti-glare screen, a vivid colour screen as well as video and audio technology to enable it to be used for listening to music, playing games and watching videos.

Its expandable memory can hold up to 32,000 e-books and give access to 2.2 million book titles including one million free e-books. The device is also equipped with Kobo’s social media tool feature Pulse, which enables users to share book reviews, comments and conversations in real-time with others on Facebook, Twitter or within the book itself.

Commenting on the launch, Michael Serbinis, CEO, Kobo Inc. said: “As part of our mission to inspire people to spend more time reading, we’ve made reading with Vox a truly social experience – we’re excited Kobo is the first eReading platform to be integrated with Facebook Ticker and Timeline, to enable further reading discovery and entertainment enabling us to take eReading to the next level.”

Rachel Russell, business unit director for books at WH Smith said: “We’re really pleased with the way customers have responded to the Kobo eReaders and accessories in our stores and we’re delighted to be the first UK retailer to offer customers a product as innovative as the new Kobo Vox.”
