WH Smith expects full-year results to be in line with expectations

WH Smith says it expects its full-year results to be in line with market expectations after making good progress at its travel business and implementing tight cost control at its high street stores.

In a pre-close trading statement today, the book and stationery retailer said its travel business, which includes stores at airports and railway stations, had continued to perform well and had made further progress in winning new business in both the UK and international travel markets.

The retailer added that a focus on gross margin gains and tight cost control at its high street stores meant that it was delivering a “solid performance”, despite the relatively strong publishing schedule in the second half of the prior year.

WH Smith will announce its preliminary results for the full year ending 31 August 2013 on 10 October.
