Westfield could open a third London shopping centre in Croydon
Westfield Group could open a third London retail development after agreeing a deal with the Whitgift Centre in Croydon.
The Australian developer has become the Whitgift Foundation’s partner in exploring the potential of a new shopping centre in the south London suburb.
Croydon is a strategic location close to Gatwick Airport and serves the affluent trade areas of Surrey and Kent as well as parts of Hampshire, East Sussex and West Sussex.
Westfield says the scheme has the potential to serve over 3 million customers in London and the south east of England.
Steven Lowy, co-chief executive at Westfield, said Croydon could provide the group with a significant presence in the south of London, augmenting Westfield’s existing centres in the west and east of the city.
