GENERAL MERCHANDISE NEWS

Wednesday snapshot: other news in brief

Other latest news in brief on Alexander Wang, retail start-ups and Circle K.

Fashion designer Alexander Wang is to open a first UK store in London’s Mayfair. Due to launch early next year, the 6,500 square foot store will be situated in Albemarle Street and will stock the designer’s entire range.

Retail entrepreneurs in London are borrowing more in start-up loans than any other sector. The loans have accounted for 35% of seed finance lent during 2014 by Startup Direct, the founding partner of the Government’s Start Up Loans scheme.

Circle K, one of the world’s largest convenience store operators, is to increase its presence in the United Arab Emirates with the opening of four new outlets in Abu Dhabi during the fourth quarter of 2014. Currently, the retailer operates in 10 locations in Abu Dhabi and 40 across the UAE.
