Strong demand for cooling products
The spell of warm weather boosting sales of products from cold drinks to fans in the UK is being repeated in the US, boosting sales for Wal-Mart across the past week
The world’s biggest retailer said that it had seen strong sales of products such as air conditioners and fans, as well as summer clothing, in the week to July 17.
As a result, Wal-Mart’s comparative store sales growth in the US is estimated to be within its forecasts of 2 to 4 per cent.
The increased demand for summer lines means general merchandise comparative sales were stronger than food. Increased average spend per customer was a stronger driver of growth than higher footfall.
