Wal-Mart stays with sales forecasts
Colder weather boosts seasonal lines
Wal-Mart is sticking to its forecasts for same store sales growth in the US as the holiday sales season approaches.
The retail giant said that same store sales growth for the US are still estimated to be running at 2 to 4 per cent for November. The Thanksgiving holiday, traditionally the start of the peak shopping season in the US, falls in the December sales period this year.
Wal-Mart said sales picked up towards the end of last week as more seasonal weather drove sales of products such as bedding, and there were also strong sales on the US Veteran’s Day holiday.
Both customer traffic and average spend were up, with increased average spend accounting for more than three-quarters of sales growth.
