Wal-Mart seeing strong run-up to Easter
Early holiday boosts March sales
Wal-Mart is predicting a strong performance for March as this year’s early Easter boosts sales for the world’s biggest retailer.
Wal-Mart still expects same–store sales growth during March to be at the high end of its 4 per cent to 6 per cent forecast, building on a strong start to the year for US value retailers.
With Easter falling on April 11, earlier than last year, shops are hoping to see some of the seasonal sales uplift appear in the bottom line for March, as customers stock up early.
Wal-Mart said food, Easter merchandise, sleepwear, menswear and electronics were among its best-selling categories during the past week.
Sales of Easter clothing and decorations are running ahead of its expectations, but candy sales are still below last year’s level at this stage of the Easter campaign.
