Non-food sales improve
Wal-Mart’s US sales in line with company forecasts as the half-way point in June approaches, with an improvement in non-food sales across the past week.
The world’s biggest retailer said that comparative sales growth for the US is estimated to be within its forecasts of 2 to 4 per cent for the five weeks to July 1.
In the week to June 11, general merchandise comparative sales growth was stronger than food across the US, reversing the recent trend. Strong categories across the week included seasonal clothes, air conditioners and fans, boosted by warmer weather.
Higher average sales rather than stronger footfall drove sales growth.
