US comparable sales show month-on-month improvement
Wal-Mart has ended May with its US sales in line with company forecasts.
After the last full week of May, the world’s biggest retailer said its comparative sales growth for the US across the month is estimated to be around 2.5 per cent. The company had forecast growth of beween 2 and 4 per cent.
The figures, which include both the core Wal-Mart chain and the Sam’s Club warehouse business, are an improvement on growth of 0.9 per cent reported for April.
Across the last week of May, food sales growth was stronger than general merchandise. Higher average spend rather than increased footfall drove comparative sales growth.
