Wal-Mart ends March on strong note

Same store sales at top end of forecasts
Wal-Mart has seen same store sales growth during March at the top end of forecasts.
The world’s biggest retailer has reported comparative store sales for the US at an estimated 4.2 per cent, marginally up on the 4.1 per cent seen in February.
Across the week to Friday, which ended the March reporting period, comparative food sales growth was stronger than general merchandise. Higher average sales rather than increased footfall drove sales growth.
Wal-Mart said that sales of Easter-specific lines were at similar levels to last year but unseasonable weather hit sales of more general spring merchandise, which is running below plan.
