Waitrose signs Portugal export deal
Waitrose has signed an export deal with European retailer Auchan which will enable it to sell groceries in Portugal.
A range of around 100 grocery and chilled products will be available in six Auchan stores in Lisbon and across the Algarve, including the city of Faro and the town of Portimao, both of which are popular destinations for British holiday makers.
The products will range from items such as Waitrose Fiery Ginger Beer and Cloudy Lemonade to Waitrose organic strawberry preserve and essential Waitrose mature English cheddar cheese.
David Morton, Waitrose business to business director, said: “We are excited to be continuing our expansion throughout Europe by bringing Waitrose products to Portugal, an incredibly popular destination with British holiday makers and expats, alike. Waitrose has a presence on every continent in the world and we continue to look for opportunities to further increase our international offering.”
In 2013, Waitrose’s export sales grew by almost 30%, with some of the most popular export products including Waitrose teabags and marmalade. The supermarket’s products are also available on-board all Eurostar trains.
