Waitrose sales up 7.3% last week

Waitrose saw its sales rise by 7.3% year-on-year last week as customers continued to stock up on festive fare.

Customers were placing Christmas orders for collection with sales of organic whole turkeys jumping by 46% while butter-basted and double-stuffed turkeys saw growth of 47% and 53% respectively.

The new Heston from Waitrose Ultimate Chocolate Bar frozen dessert grew its sales by 65% compared with Heston frozen desserts last year. Waitrose said its buyers had increased orders by 80% to match customer demand through to Christmas.

Demand for premium puddings was also strong as sales of the Waitrose Richly Fruited Christmas Pudding with Rémy Martin Champagne Cognac rocketed by 43.5% on last year. Meanwhile, stollen sales doubled and Christmas cake sales jumped by 27%.

Looking at drinks, sales of imported whiskies were up 32% while malt whisky saw a 16% increase.

The supermarket’s beauty gifting range also proved popular with a sales uplift of 125%.
