Waitrose poll reveals nation’s Christmas food decisions

A new survey by Waitrose has revealed that 81% shoppers regard taste as the most important factor for Christmas food.

The survey of 1,000 people, which asked about their key decisions this Christmas, also revealed that the provenance of food has continued to grow in importance over the past few years with over 78% of people saying they prefer to buy British over the festive period.

While 39% said they will have all their Christmas food shopping done and dusted by 21 December, only 3% said they would rely on a final Christmas Eve trolley dash. The poll found that some 22% of the nation will be sitting down to tuck into their Christmas dinner at 2pm with 14% opting for a later sitting of 3pm.

Seemingly encouraged by popular cooking programmes, 58% of those surveyed said they will cook everything from scratch for their Christmas dinner this year with only 10% intending to pass off readymade dishes as homemade.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Turkey still rules the roost for the main meal, with 65% of those polled saying they will stick with the traditional turkey dinner this year, while 8% will be buying beef and 8% will choose chicken.
