Food offer at Canary Wharf store

Supermarket operator Waitrose has included licensed restaurants in its new store at the Canary Wharf development in London.
The John Lewis-owned upmarket food retailer enlisted the assistance of licensing law specialists Blake Lapthorn to obtain key licences prior to the opening of the new flagship Waitrose Food and Home store at the Canada Square development in Canary Wharf.
Blake Lapthorn successfully persuaded Thames magistrates to grant a range of licences for the store.
The three level development has a food hall plus four separate licenced restaurants, including a steak and oysters bar, a sushi bar and a wine bar serving tapas.
Phil Crier, partner and head of Blake Lapthorn’s licencing team, said: “The new Waitrose development was an interesting project in licensing terms – one of the most unusual features of the licensing applications is that a total of 18 licensees were approved by the licensing Justices for the various applications.”
