Waitrose launches new online wine site
Waitrose has unveiled plans to grow its share of online wine sales with the launch of a new wine site.
Waitrose Cellar, which replaces Waitrose Wine Direct, will stock over 1,200 wines, spirits and champagnes. Customers will be able to mix their own case of six bottles and receive free delivery within three working days. They will also be able to buy pre-selected mixed cases that will change with the seasons.
New additions to the retailer’s online wine offering include a Fine & Rare range, the ability for customers to rate and review previous purchases, and content to help them navigate the range. In addition, 150 of Waitrose’s best selling wines will have a tasting video from the supermarket’s dedicated wine specialists to help customers choose their case.
Customers will be offered food matching suggestions, detailed tasting notes, regional guides and recommendations based on their past purchases. They will also be able to call a team of Waitrose Cellar Specialists if they need help in selecting a case or wines for specific occasions.
Robert McCarthy, head of cellar & direct services, said: “Waitrose Cellar will bring a new element to our multi channel offer by allowing customers to receive the wine expertise we are renowned for in our shops from the comfort of their own home. We’ll be offering great value combined with interesting and unusual exclusives, with free delivery on every order.”
