Waitrose egg sales up 107% in past year
Waitrose has reported soaring sales of eggs over the last year due to the increased popularity of home baking.
The supermarket said it had seen a 107% increase in sales of medium sized hen eggs as cookery shows such as Great British Bake Off, Fabulous Baker Brothers and Food & Drink encourage more people to bake their own cakes.
Frances Westerman, buyer of eggs at Waitrose said: “We’ve seen a real increase in the number of eggs being sold over the last year. It’s not just hen eggs either, the huge variety of eggs we stock from Duck and quail to Ostrich and Rhea are all proving popular.”
Waitrose stocks only free range eggs with varieties including Guinea Fowl, Ostrich, Old Cotswold Legbar, Bantam eggs, Burford Browns, Quail, Rhea, Turkey, Goose and Pheasant.
