Vision Express donates 2,000 pairs of glasses to aid agency
Vision Express has teamed up with Al-Ain International Welfare Trust to deliver around 2,000 pairs of glasses to healthcare camps across Pakistan as part of an aid programme supporting disadvantaged communities through health and education initiatives.
Around 2,000 people, including 300 children, will benefit from the optical retailer’s donation.
Vision Express has also donated eye health screening equipment which together with the frames has been air freighted to Pakistan. The frames are now being adapted and provided free to those people with the greatest need.
The trust’s chief executive Dr Khan said: “We thank Vision Express wholeheartedly for making such a large donation of glasses, which will be life-changing for the recipients. We work in communities where males need their vision to gain employment and support their families. Without sight, their families may starve. The impact is enormous. It’s amazing to go to the region with aid and hear how, as a result of our help, someone can see the face of their loved one for the very first time.”
Al-Ain International Welfare Trust works in rural areas across the Asian subcontinent with a number of health camps catering for around 800 people with a range of vision conditions.
Omar Hassan, head of professional services at Vision Express, said: “We’re pleased to be in a position to help individuals overseas who are most in need of vision correction. Sight is one of our most precious senses, yet in the UK it is often neglected, despite sight loss being one of the public’s biggest fears. We hope the equipment we’ve provided will allow professionals in the camps to screen for conditions more effectively and make a real difference to the vision care of generations to come.”
