US mattress brand Casper enters UK market
US mattress brand Casper has expanded into the UK with the launch of an online shop.
The launch follows its expansion to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in July, and a $55M Series B investment led by Institutional Venture Partners in June last year, which brought its total funding to $70 million.
Founded in 2014 in New York by five young entrepreneurs, the company now has 170 full-time employees and generated $100 million in sales in 2015.
Casper’s investors include New Enterprise Associates, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, Vaizra Investments, SV Angel, Ashton Kutcher’s A Grade Investments, Slow Ventures, and Queensbridge Ventures, as well as actor Tobey Maguire, singer Adam Levine, and hip hop artist Nas.
“Our incredible and sustained growth in the first two years has led to significant consumer demand from around the world,” said Philip Krim, Casper co-founder and chief executive. “Now more than ever, consumers are waking up to the idea that buying online is the best approach to a better night’s sleep, and we’re excited about the opportunity to bring our award-winning customer experience and thoughtful design to the UK.”
Developed by a team of in-house engineers, the Casper comes in four standard sizes and is delivered directly to customers in a small box. The company then gives customers the opportunity to try the product in their own home for up to 100 nights, risk free.
