Uniqlo plans US expansion

Casual fashion brand Uniqlo is to expand its presence in the United States with the opening of 10 new stores.

The openings will take the total number of Uniqlo stores in the US to 17 and follow the launch of the retailer’s online shopping platform in the country in October last year.

Due to open in the autumn, the new stores will be situated in shopping centres and retail mall spaces in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and California.

To staff the new stores, Uniqlo said it will hire and train several hundred full-time and part-time employees at all levels.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Larry Meyer, chief operating officer of Uniqlo’s USA business and owner Fast Retailing Group’s senior vice president, said: “Uniqlo is ready to take our next step in our US. expansion by opening more smaller format and mall stores in the regions surrounding our current flagships stores in the Tri-State and Northern California regions.

“Our goal is to continue to build brand awareness for new potential customers, and greater loyalty from our fans, with more convenient access to our high quality clothing and exceptional customer service.”

Uniqlo has more than 1,100 stores in 14 markets around the world, including the UK.
