Uniqlo chooses Berlin for first store in Germany
Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo is to make its debut in Germany by opening a flagship store in Berlin.
Due to open on 11 April, the 2,700 sq m store at Tauentzienstrasse 7 will be Uniqlo’s largest shop in Europe and will carry the brand’s full line of clothing for men, women and kids.
The store will create several hundred new jobs on the city.
Berndt Hauptkorn, Fast Retailing Group officer and Uniqlo Europe chief executive said: “Berlin is one of the world’s leading capitals. Uniqlo has successfully established itself in London, Paris and Moscow, and the time has come to continue this success in Germany. We are excited about Berlin, and the customers across our German-speaking markets.”
Never Miss a Retail Update!Designed by Tokyo interior design firm Wonderwall, the store will combine stainless steel with futuristic spaces. As a Uniqlo global flagship, it will also feature high-tech installations, including monitors, LED tickers, and revolving mannequins. In addition, furnishings by German designers associated with the Bauhaus – including Mies Van Der Rohe, Walter Gropius, and Marcel Breuer – will be situated throughout the store.
Founded in Japan in 1984, Uniqlo currently has more than 1,300 stores in 14 countries worldwide. In Europe, the company operates 18 locations across three countries after launching in the UK in 2001, France in 2007, and Russia in 2010.
