Unilever and Tesco resolve pricing dispute
Food manufacturer Unilever and the Tesco supermarket chain have resolved their dispute over wholesale prices.
Unilever had wanted to increase its prices by as much as 10% due to the sharp fall in the value of the pound but this was resisted by Tesco
The news means that brands such as Marmite and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream will be fully available.
In a statement Unilever said: “Unilever is pleased to confirm that the supply situation with Tesco in the UK and Ireland has now been successfully resolved.
“We have been working together closely to reach this resolution and ensure our much-loved brands are once again fully available. For all those that missed us, thanks for all the love.”
The British Retail Consortium said it was unable to comment on the commercial relationships of individual members.
However, its chief executive Helen Dickinson said: “Retailers are firmly on the side of consumers in negotiating with suppliers and improving efficiencies in the supply chain to control the inflationary pressure that is building through the devaluation of the pound.
“Years of falling shop prices and higher costs have left limited scope for retailers to continue absorbing this pressure, and everyone in the supply chain will need to play their part in maintaining low prices for consumers.”
Tesco said it was pleased that the situation had been resolved to its satisfaction.
