UK retail sales fall in June

Further drop in consumer spending
July 25 2002
Retail sales have seen their second consecutive monthly fall

The official UK figures from the Office of National Statistics show a 0.7 per cent drop in total spending, with a sharper 1 per cent drop in non-food sales.
The year-on year percentage growth in sales was 2 per cent for food stores, down from 3 per cent in May, and 3.9 per cent in non-food stores, down from 3.5 per cent. Overal retail sales are up 4.6 per cent on a year ago.
