UK charity seeks compatible licensing partner for long term relationship, must like pets, vets…

PDSA, a UK veterinary charity, will exhibit for the first time at Brand Licensing 2005 as the first phase of a major move into licensing and sponsorship. .

Founded in 1917, PDSA is the only charity exclusively dedicated to providing free veterinary care to the sick and injured pets of owners in need, but has yet to fully realise the licensing possibilities such a strong brand offers.
PDSA Trading Development Manager, Helena Brett, commented: “PDSA is already a very well-known and trusted brand among pet owners, and our television advertising campaign has brought the PDSA name to the attention of a growing audience. We are convinced that licensing will offer a new way forward for us to generate revenue and increase awareness while maintaining our integrity.”
PDSA’s developing Corporate Social Responsibility programme already offers opportunities including payroll giving, volunteering, nominating the organisation as the official ‘charity of the year’, or taking part in a variety of sponsored treks, cycle rides and marathons. Sponsorship opportunities include PDSA National PetCheck Week (free health checks for pets); PDSA Pet Survivor of the Year Awards; Pet Fit Camp; the PDSA Pet Pawtraits calendar (photographed by Lord Lichfield, featuring well-known celebrities and their pets); and trade stands at Crufts and County shows.
The charity hopes that being a newcomer to the marketplace will mean that PDSA comes as a breath of fresh air to manufacturers and retailers looking for new opportunities to develop. PDSA now ranks as the UK’s fifteenth-largest charity (out of more than 200,000) in terms of voluntary income, and lists its main strengths as being economically astute, dynamic, ethical, compassionate and professional.
Helena continued: “PDSA is a terrific brand and we are very excited about starting this new venture. We are inviting manufacturers and retailers, as well as the licensing and marketing press to come and visit us on stand 662 and find out what PDSA has to offer. This is a great opportunity to come in with us at the start of what will be a very successful project.”
With a sophisticated database of 2.1m active donors and an annual mailing programme that has reached 20m items, the charity has a broad base of support and is committed to seeking new sources of revenue through licensing. Potential opportunities include toys, games, books and films for 6 – 14-year-olds; fashion, pampered pet items, magazines and designer living products for women aged 25 – 45; and collectables, memorabilia, pet products and financial services for the 55 – 70 CDE market
