Tortilla to launch first site in Scotland

Tortilla, the Mexican themed dining brand, is to open its first restaurant in Scotland at the Hammerson operated Silverburn shopping centre in Glasgow.

Situated at the entrance of the centre’s recently launched 100,000 square foot leisure extension, Tortilla’s 127 square metre restaurant is expected to open this summer.

Launched in 2007, the brand has since grown to 28 restaurants in UK. Created by Brighton based agency Design LSM, the new restaurant will have 58 covers.

Property director from Tortilla, Rob Lucy, said: “Scotland has been a target in our expansion plans for some time, but only now, with the opening of Silverburn’s leisure extension, has the perfect location become available. We are in a prominent position in one of Scotland’s most exciting, popular and successful shopping centres.”

Other brands to have taken space within Silverburn’s extension include Thaikhun, Carluccio’s, Chimichanga, Cosmo, Zizzi, TGI Friday’s, Five Guys, Handmade Burger Co., Pizza Hut and Nando’s. There is also a 14-screen Cineworld cinema.

Sarah Fox, head of restaurants and leisure at Hammerson, added: “We are looking forward to Tortilla making its debut in Scotland with us. The brand choosing to launch at Silverburn not only completes the vibrant mix of restaurants on offer but also reaffirms the centre’s position as the region’s premium retail, dining and leisure destination that continues to appeal not only to the local catchment but also to customers from further afield.”
