Topps Tiles appoints Michael Jack as chairman
Topps Tiles has announced that Michael Jack has been appointed as non-executive chairman with immediate effect following the retirement of Barry Bester.
Jack was previously the company’s senior non-executive director, and joined the Board in 1999. Prior to that, he served as an MP for 23 years and earlier in his career held management positions at Procter & Gamble, Marks & Spencer, and a subsidiary of Northern Foods. Jack is currently an advisor to HSBC Bank and remains a Privy Councillor and Chair of the recently formed Office of Tax Simplification in the Treasury.
The tile retailer also said that it had made significant progress towards the appointment of further non-executive directors and said it expected to announce at least one new Directorship “in the near future.”
Michael Jack said of his appointment:”Topps Tiles is a remarkable and robust company. For me to have been chosen by the Board to succeed Barry Bester as its Chairman is a very great honour. I know we have a strong management team and great staff and I am looking forward to working with them all so that, together, we can continue the development of the range of products and services which our customers want.”
Barry Bester commented: “I have chosen to resign as Chairman of Topps Tiles after a wonderful 26 years with the business, as I have been spending an increasing amount of my time on my other private business interests. I offer my best wishes to my successor Michael Jack, with whom I have worked for many years.”
