TJ Hughes gears up for expansion

Discount retailer strengthens management team
Discount department store group TJ Hughes has strengthened its management team with three senior appointments as it gears up for an expansion drive.

Under new chief executuve Robin Dickie, appointed last month, the new recruits will boost the strategy to turn TJ Hughes into a national force in quality discount retailing.
Fergus Patterson is appointed as stores director. His retail experience includes senior operational positions at Burton Group, Homebase and WH Smith.
Muriel Stirling will be appointed as marketing director. She has extensive marketing experience having worked in senior marketing positions at Gillette, the agency world and WH Smith.
Cath Norgate is appointed as interim trading director for a period of six months. Her experience includes roles at The Burton Group, TK Maxx and Woolworths, where her last role was commercial director of clothing & home.
The senior executive team now includes: Robin Dickie, Andrew Goody, FD, Laura Bennett, buying director, Peter Morris, buying director, Chris McKeown, supply chain director, and Richard Foggin, property director, along with the three new appointments.
Dickie said: “I am very pleased that Fergus, Muriel and Cath have decided to join TJ Hughes. Each bring extensive experience and leadership to the team and we are delighted that they have chosen to join TJ Hughes in its national expansion.
“I am confident that we now have the right team in place to accelerate the development of TJ Hughes and turn it into a national force on the high street.
“The new appointments complement the existing management team’s expertise and fill some important gaps. After my first month at TJ Hughes I can confirm that the business is in good shape and I am impressed with the solid platform we have here on which to build the business.”
TJ Hughes’ management bought the business from fomer owner JJB Sports last year.
