Timpson announces free holidays for staff as owner buys holiday homes

Timpson is offering its staff members a free holiday in the latest gesture to its workforce.

James Timpson, the head of the cobbler chain, spoke out on Twitter about it.

“Good news! We have bought our 17th colleague holiday home, this time in Great Yarmouth,” he announced. “We now have 643 weeks a year for our amazing colleagues to have free holidays next year with their family and friends. Looking after colleagues is the best investment we make.”

The response was overwhelmingly positive:

“Your business is a breath of fresh air in these dark days. Merry Xmas to you and all your employees,” Margaret replied to James.

Fabian said: “For years you have always attempted to do right by your greatest resource, your employees. Everyone I have come across says without hesitation the same and also it being a genuine ethos of the company. Take a bow James.”

Postie said: “Could you come run Royal Mail for us please James, could do with a bloke who understands. Well done mate, this is how to be a boss.”

“Just when I think you and your company have reached Peak Awesomeness, you crank it up ANOTHER notch!!!,” Martyn said.

Timpson Group is well-known for its chain of shoe repair and key maker outlets, and its stance on recruiting ex-offenders to help them to move on from their past.

Mr Timpson said previously: “Our culture is about the elements of trust and kindness, we have developed this over the years by making it an integral part of the business.

“At Timpson everyone is equal and it’s my job to ensure colleagues are happy in their jobs. To do this there are a range of benefits, such as free holiday homes, a Dreams Come True scheme, weekly lotteries and mental health support.”

Discussing the company’s working culture and success in schemes to boost employee happiness, Mr Timpson added he also divides his time between the top and bottom levels of the company to avoid being “sucked into the engine room of middle management”.
