thortful launches “No Crap Presents Please” Christmas Cards

Research reveals Brits are ready to ditch unwanted gifts in favour of meaningful gestures.

One of the UK’s leading online marketplaces for greeting cards, thortul, has launched the world’s first ‘No Crap Presents Please’ pre-Christmas cards, encouraging a shift from unnecessary gifts to heartfelt messages.

New research surveying over 2,000 UK consumers found that:

87% of Brits are open to NOT receiving a Christmas present if it means avoiding wasted money or financial strain on the gifter.
50% admit to buying low-quality, last-minute gifts out of desperation.
83% would prefer a thoughtful, hand-written card over an impersonal gift.
66% are considering more sustainable or experience-based gifts to reduce waste.

Pip Heywood, Managing Director at thortful, said: “A meaningful message can often mean more than a last-minute, impulse purchase. Our research highlights how much we value heartfelt connections over wasteful presents this Christmas.”

The research also uncovered that 60% of Brits claim to have mastered the art of faking enthusiasm when receiving an unwanted gift. Body language expert Judi James, collaborating with thortful, explained: “Receiving a disappointing gift often leads to a ‘performance’ to spare loved ones’ feelings. This can include overly enthusiastic smiles, exaggerated expressions, or rehearsed responses. It’s a testament to our desire to keep the festive spirit alive.”

thortful’s campaign highlights the importance of thoughtful giving. With over 6,000 independent creators, thortful offers unique cards for every occasion. To explore their collection, visit thortful.com.
