Thorntons sales rise

Like for like sales at its own stores rose 3.2 per cent in the last four weeks of the 28 weeks to 6 January.

Online sales increased by 19.1%, following investment into the website and increased marketing. Franchise sales mirrored own shop sales with a disappointing summer and improvement later in the year with 8 new franchisees being added in the six weeks leading up to Christmas. Mike Davies Thornton’s Chief Executive, commented ‘On the whole, we have made steady progress following a difficult start to the year. The investment made across all the sales channels in the first half produced an improved Q2 performance. This investment together with new sales and
cost initiatives positions us well to deliver overall sales growth in the second half.’
