Third of UK workers shop online during work hours
A new study has revealed that UK workers spend around 96 hours per year shopping online at work.
According to Give as you Live, the price comparison site that donates to charity, a third of employees have admitted to shopping online while working and to spending an average of 24 minutes every working day browsing online shopping sites.
Workers in Leicester were found to spend the most time shopping online at work at 45 minutes and 44 seconds, closely followed by staff in Glasgow at 43 minutes and 11 seconds. People in Nottingham were shown to spend the least amount of time at just 14 minutes and 43 seconds, which was the lowest of any UK city. Those in London spent 23 minutes and 51 seconds.
Give as you Live’s transaction data shows that UK workers spend an average of £77.49 when shopping online during a 9am to 5pm shift, with Monday morning at 11am being the the most popular time for a work time purchase.
Never Miss a Retail Update!Tesco topped the charts as the most popular retailer to shop through at work, with Marks & Spencer and The Trainline coming second and third respectively.
The figures also show that there was a 14% increase in the number of transactions between 9am and 5pm from January to July 2014 compared to the same period in 2013.
Steff Lewis from Give as you Live said: “It’s often said that there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done, something our figures confirm. Working nine to five is how most people make a living, but it also means we have less time to do important ‘life admin’ like shopping. Now we can see how Brits are coping – by shopping on the boss’ dollar.”
