Things are looking up for retailers this Christmas

Figures released today from retail analyst, FootFall confirm that the final week before Christmas has seen consumers hitting the shops hard, with a week-on-week increase of over 30%, although it is still quieter on the high street than last year.

Natasha Burton, marketing manager at FootFall comments: “This week has been a busy week for retailers, with a large increase in the amount of people shopping.
“Shoppers have really dictated what they want from retailers this year – waiting until sales promotions and incentives to buy their gifts. A standard has now been set for this time of year. More than ever, retailers are having to run big discounts and promotions to tempt consumers to the high street to start spending, with many starting their January sales before Christmas has even arrived.
“And with only two shopping days left, we are confident that the number of people shopping will continue to rise, with savvy shoppers who have been waiting to get the best deal possible, grabbing those last minute bargains. What will be interesting is to see what sort of effect the ‘official’ start of the sales will have when they begin on Boxing Day and 27 December,”
