The Body Shop becomes first global beauty brand to be awarded 100% vegan certification

The Body Shop has become the world’s first global beauty brand to have 100% vegan product formulations certified by The Vegan Society.

The retailer’s entire product formulations across skincare, body care, haircare, makeup and fragrance have been awarded the certification.

The Body Shop set itself the target in 2021 when 60% of its products carried the Vegan Society trademark.

The Body Shop’s certification involved an assessment of every supplier and manufacturer of raw materials within its product catalogue. This meant that over 4,000 ingredients had to be validated for over 1,000 products to carry the stamp.

The Vegan Society’s director of business development Chantelle Adkins said: “Today we are extending a massive congratulations to The Body Shop for achieving 100% of their product formulations being vegan and certified with The Vegan Society’s Vegan Trademark.

“We hope that this significant step sets a global standard for other beauty brands to follow and inspires further change to reduce animal use and exploitation across the industry.”

According to the Global Vegan Cosmetics Market Outlook 2028 report, the vegan cosmetics industry is predicted to grow with 6.31% compound annual growth rate between 2023 and 2028 and reach $24 billion by 2028.
