Tesco signs up Secret Agent man

Former James Bond star in supermarket’s Christmas ad campaign
November 10 2003
Former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore revisits the role of suave action hero in a high profile ad Christmas ad campaign for Tesco.

Sir Roger appears alongside one of his most glamorous leading ladies yet – pensioner Dotty, played by Prunella Scales, and the face of Tesco ads for almost ten years.
Dotty is shown capturing the heart of the secret agent man on the ski slopes and luring him back to her chalet.
They exchange gifts, and enjoy a lavish meal before Dotty moves in to kiss Moore. But at the crucial moment, the film dissolves to reveal it was just a dream.
Scales said: “I read the script and thought ‘I am going to get kissed by Roger Moore. And then, like any actress’s worst nightmare, I discovered it was only a dream.”
Tesco UK marketing director Simon Uwins said: “Dotty and her family have been the face of Tesco for nearly a decade and are today more popular than ever.
“Our customers love the comedy behind the ads and we’re confident Sir Roger Moore will raise a smile with viewers over Christmas.”
