Tesco revamps meat, fish and poultry range

Supermarket giant Tesco has unveiled a multi-million pound revamp of its meat, fish and poultry offer.

The retailer said the revamp forms part of its £1 billion investment programme to improve the shopping experience for customers, and follows the recent launch of its new artisan bakeries and re-branded Everyday Value range.

Quality improvements have been introduced across Tesco’s beef, lamb, pork, chicken, fish, sausages, bacon, burgers and meatballs products. The retailer’s Finest range beef steaks and joints are now matured for 28 days and the Tesco brand range for 21 days. In addition, all Finest chickens are now free range corn fed.

Tesco has also introduced new in-store signage to reflect the quality improvements and the meat, fish and poultry aisle in Extras, Superstores and Metros have been refreshed to improve the shopping experience for customers.

Tesco’s Meat, Fish and Poultry Director Derek Lawlor said:  “Because getting a great steak for Friday night’s dinner and the right bacon for Sunday morning’s fry-up really matters, we want to make sure that our customers can count on us for excellent quality products at a good price.  Customers have told us that meat, fish and poultry are really important items on their weekly shopping lists, so we’ve worked hard to refresh our range and improve the shopping experience in store.”

As a part of the revamp, Tesco recruited and trained 45 new Quality Assurance Managers at its depots to check the quality of meat, fish and poultry before it leaves for stores. It has also re-trained 1,600 store staff on how to maintain quality on the shelves.
