Tesco moves key UK director as it begins the search for a new Central Europe CEO

Tesco has revealed that UK fresh food commercial director Andrew Yaxley is to leave the post he has held for two years to prepare for a new general management role with the supermarket.

Yaxley, who has been at Tesco since 2001, has been a key figure in the implementation of the supermarket’s turnaround plan and was involved in the recent launch of its new Everyday Value range.

Yaxley’s duties will be taken over on 1 December by John Scouler who is Tesco’s UK commercial director for grocery, household goods, beers, wines, spirits, tobacco and petrol.

A Tesco spokesman said: “At Tesco we place great emphasis on developing our colleagues to ensure we have the best possible pipeline of general management talent for the future.

“Andrew’s development programme is just one example of this and it happens at every level of the business.”

Meanwhile, the Financial Times has reported that Tesco has begun a search for a new chief executive for its operations in central Europe. The newspaper said the group would consider both internal and external candidates to succeed Gordon Fryett who is set to retire in just over a year.
