Tesco launches virtual window shopping tool for F&F clothing range

Supermarket giant Tesco has launched virtual shopping technology for its F&F clothing range in the windows of three of its central London stores.

Giant posters of F&F clothing displayed in the windows of the Covent Garden, Dean Street and Tooley Street flagship Metro stores use Aurasma technology to allow customers to order the clothing via their smart phones.

Customers can download the Aurasma app and point their smart phones at the posters so the pictures are transformed into moving images. Shoppers can then add the items they like to their virtual shopping basket and collect them the next day from one of the central London stores or have them delivered to an address of their choice.

Emily Shamma, Tesco Clothing online director said: “This is really exciting new technology that we think our customers will enjoy using.  It’s a great opportunity to help us to reach new customers who may not be familiar with our full F&F collection.  It’s really convenient for the busy office workers who use Tesco Metro stores in Covent Garden and London Bridge during their lunch break or on their way home after work.”

To coincide with the window shopping experience, F&F will also open its first ever pop-up shop in Covent Garden piazza. The F&F store will open to customers for four days over the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, from 30 May – 2 June.

To tie in with the Jubilee celebrations, the pop-up shop will offer customers a 1950s-inspired boutique where customers will be able try on a selection of items from the extended online range.  Garments can then be purchased online by scanning a QR ticket or through an iPad station in the shop, and either delivered to an address of the customer’s choosing or collected the next day from the nearby Covent Garden Tesco Metro.

Shamma added: “We are delighted to open our pop-up shop in vibrant Covent Garden for a few days over Diamond Jubilee weekend. Shoppers will be able to see firsthand the excellent extended range we offer at Tesco.com/clothing and take time to enjoy this new shopping experience.”

Customers at the F&F pop-up store will also be able to try on garments using the F&F virtual fitting room service.
