Tesco launches online grocery shopping in Slovakia
Tesco has launched an online grocery shopping service in Slovakia following a successful trial with customers and staff.
The new service will operate in Bratislava and several surrounding towns and offer around 1,000 customers per week the facility to order their shopping online and have it delivered to their homes. Products available to order will include 20,000 lines of fresh and frozen food, groceries and non-food items such as toys, newspapers and magazines as well as basic household items.
The launch is the latest development in Tesco’s roll-out of its online grocery service to its businesses across the world.
Ken Towle, Tesco’s online food and internet retailing director, said: “We’ve used our learning and experience from our existing online operations in the UK, Ireland, South Korea, and more recently in the Czech Republic and Poland, to create an innovative IT platform that is industry leading and scalable.”
Never Miss a Retail Update!Tesco will initially operate from two stores covering Bratislava and several smaller towns such as Senec, Pezinok and Stupava.
The retailer first entered Slovakia in 1996 through the acquisition of seven K-Mart department stores and now operates more than 126 stores in the country.
