Tesco launches Hudl tablet computer
Tesco has entered the tablet market with the launch of the Hudl, its own seven inch HD device.
Priced at £119, the Hudl runs the latest version of Android and features a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, front and rear facing cameras, and up to nine hours of video battery life. It also has 16GB of storage which can be extended to 48GB.
Launching online at tesco.com and in Tesco stores on 30 September, the Hudl will come in four colours. Tesco said it had designed and built the tablet with its customers in mind who will be able to access the supermarket’s range of digital services, including shopping, banking, and Blinkbox movies and TV, through a dedicated launcher button on the device.
Tesco chief executive Philip Clarke said: “Hudl is a colourful, accessible tablet for the whole family to enjoy. The first stage in our tablet offering, it’s convenient, integrated and easy to use with no compromise on spec. Customers are quite rightly very discerning about the technology they buy so we knew we had to be competitive on all fronts.
Never Miss a Retail Update!“Being online is an increasingly essential part of family life and whilst tablets are on the rise, usage is still quite limited. We feel the time is right for Tesco to help widen tablet ownership and bring the fun, convenience and excitement of tablets to even more customers across the UK. The digital revolution should be for the many, not for the few.”
As expected, the supermarket will sell a range of accessories for the device including cases, earphones, screen protectors and in-car chargers.
