Tesco blames pricing discrepancy on computer error

Tesco has been accused of breaking its national price policy following the discovery that it has been selling products cheaper in some areas of Scotland than elsewhere in the UK.
Industry research found that shoppers in some stores north of the border have been paying an average of 5% less on a range of 800 items during the last three weeks.
Tesco has denied that it is attempting to introduce a two-tier pricing policy blaming the price differentiation on a technical glitch.
A spokesperson said: “A relatively small number of products were incorrectly priced by a small amount. This was caused by a technical error as our Scottish stores are being moved to a new pricing software system. The error has now been corrected.”
