Tesco Big Price Drop generates 1 million extra transactions

Tesco has revealed that its Big Price Drop has generated approximately 1 million additional transactions per week since the promotion was launched three weeks ago.

The retailer has invested £500 million in cutting the price of 3,000 everyday items such as milk, bread, fruit and vegetables and yesterday said that more than 45 million transactions had passed through its tills where customers had bought lines included in the promotion.

UK chief executive, Richard Brasher, said: “The Big Price Drop is very popular with customers and millions are already voting with their feet.”

Tesco has also introduced a Facebook app to enable its customers to tell the supermarket which products they would most like to see included in the promotion.

Customers using the app will be able to choose five categories from a list of options for what they would most like to see as part of the Big Price Drop.  When they have registered their votes, customer will then be able to see what their Facebook Friends have voted for, what others in their region have voted for, as well as the nationwide results.

Brasher added: “We are committed to doing all we can to help our customers and our new Facebook application will enable them to tell us directly where they most value reduced prices.”

The Facebook app will be promoted through existing advertising for the Big Price Drop on television, radio, press and outdoor as well as through digital advertising.
