Telefunken acquired by Gordon Brothers

Advisory and investment firm Gordon Brothers has acquired the Telefunken global consumer electronics brand.

Based in Frankfurt, Telefunken offers a diverse portfolio of products spanning video, e-mobility, domestic appliances and audio.

Following the acquisition, Gordon Brothers will invest in further growth within the brand’s existing product categories while targeting younger consumers. It will also focus on partnering with Telefunken’s current licensees and work to expand the licensee portfolio internationally.

Gordon Brothers has previously revitalised Polaroid and helped the consumer electronics brand find new life after acquiring it out of bankruptcy.

Frank Morton, chief investment officer of Gordon Brothers, said: “We are honored to continue the incredible legacy Telefunken started in 1903 and grow the brand with current and new partners. Telefunken has opportunities for expansion and is well positioned to benefit from global industry growth within the consumer electronics, appliance and e-bikes markets.”

Hemjo Klein, the former chairman and founder of Telefunken’s holding company, added: “Telefunken is poised for growth and enhanced global outreach. Having developed and established a working partnership with Gordon Brothers over the last several years, I am more than confident they will uphold the brand’s legacy and steer Telefunken through the next chapter of growth.”
