Swarovski to open new Blackburn store

Jewellery and accessories brand Swarovksi is to open a new store at The Mall Blackburn.

Swarovski’s third boutique in Lancashire, the store will span 2,100 square feet and will be situated in the centre’s Cobden Court mall.

The news comes as Capital & Regional brings forward a £3 million refurbishment of the north west corner of The Mall Blackburn, which includes the creation of a 15,700 square Pure Gym and a new expanded entrance on Ainsworth Street.

Capital & Regional is also improving the food and beverage offer at The Mall Blackburn, with Subway signing a lease for a 1,400 square foot unit to join Ed’s Easy Diner which opened earlier this year. Meanwhile, independent coffee shop Rhode Island opened its seventh UK store in the summer, and Costa Coffee has recently completed a store refurbishment following a strong sales performance.

Will Blake, retail asset manager at Capital & Regional, said: “Since 2010 we have invested almost £70 million in The Mall Blackburn, which has not only modernised the centre, but has helped reinforce its position as one of the area’s leading retail destinations.

“This creates a platform from which to evolve the retail-mix; Swarovski is symptomatic of the type of brand we are confident of attracting and a reflection of the strong trading performance of jewellers in the centre.

“Alongside this, we will be developing the F&B offer, in line with our ‘Beyond Retail’ strategy which will inform our approach across all of our shopping centre assets.”

The Mall Blackburn is situated in the heart of Blackburn and has an immediate population catchment of 460,000. Acquired by Capital and Regional in 2004, the centre is let to over 100 occupiers including Primark, Debenhams, BHS and Next.
