SuperGroup appoints Euan Sutherland as chief executive

SuperGroup, the owner of the Superdry brand, has appointed former Co-operative Group head Euan Sutherland as its new chief executive.

Currently a non-executive director of SuperGroup, Sutherland will take up his new position immediately. He will succeed Julian Dunkerton who will move to the newly created role of founder and product and brand director.

Dunkerton will now focus on developing the group’s product ranges and will also work to enhance and protect the Superdry brand as it increases its global presence.

SuperGroup said Sutherland will be instrumental in delivering the growth plans of the company.

Peter Bamford, SuperGroup chairman, said: “Euan’s appointment marks another important step in the continued evolution of SuperGroup.  Euan has the stature, skills, experience and personal style to work in partnership with Julian and lead the team through the next stage of the company’s development.”

Dunkerton added: “With the number of opportunities SuperGroup has available and the increasing complexity of the business, now is the right time to bring in a CEO of Euan’s calibre. Having worked with him on the board for two years, I am certain our skills will be complementary and look forward to delivering the continued growth of the Superdry brand together.”

Previously chief executive of the Co-operative Group, Sutherland resigned in March after less than a year in the role. At the time, he labelled the group as “ungovernable” after details of his £3.6 million pay deal were leaked. Prior to that he was chief executive of Kingfisher, the owner of DIY chain B&Q.
