Superdrug like-for-like sales up 6.8% over Christmas
Superdrug saw its like-for-like sales in stores increase by 6.8% over the festive period.
Makeup was a big seasonal winner in the five weeks to 2 January. Other top performers included bronzing products, wellbeing ranges, fragrances and gifts.
Fragrance sales were driven by designer perfumes such as Daisy by Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney and Dolce & Gabbana.
Meanwhile, online sales climbed by 47% over the five weeks compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. In addition, Superdrug’s Online Doctor service, which dispenses products direct to customers’ doors or nearby stores, delivered its first one million pound sales period in December.
During its last quarter, Superdrug opened four new stores including its first ever airside pharmacy at Edinburgh Airport. A further 20 new stores are expected to launch in 2016.
Peter Macnab Superdrug managing director, said: “This Christmas we concentrated on offering customers as many reasons as possible to shop at Superdrug – from market-leading prices to a wealth of free gifts. We also added interest to our stores with new beauty services, including Braid Bars offering hair plaiting and Glitter Lips. I would like to thank all our colleagues who worked so hard to deliver such a great service to customers this Christmas.”
