Sunshine cuts UK shopper numbers
FootFall reports further drop
March 25 2003
An unseasonal spell of fine weather across most of the UK has led to a further fall in shopper numbers.
Figures released today show that the number of shoppers across the country in the week of March 17 fell by 4.7 per cent compared to the same week in 2002.
David Smyth, marketing manager at FootFall said: “Although there has been much made of the continuing erosion of consumer confidence, due in part to the start of war with Iraq, the unseasonably good weather must have had an effect on high street shopper numbers.
“We also need to take into account that, as Easter is much later this year than in the last two years, the traditional build up has not yet begun. This will have had an effect on the year-on-year figures.”
