Subway launches free WiFi in 1,000 stores
Specialist sandwich retailer Subway has rolled out free WiFi in more than 1,000 of its UK and Irish stores, with the remainder planned to go live by the end of the year.
Subway said the O2 service will enhance the in-store digital experience for customers, building on the brand’s success with its fully mobile-enabled loyalty programme Subcard, which now has over 1.2 million registered users.
Once signed up to the service, customers will be able to access the WiFi in any participating Subway store, or at any of O2 WiFi’s network of hotspots across 9,000 venues and locations.
Jane Abbott, marketing manager for the Subway brand in the UK and Ireland said: “The Subway brand is dedicated to investing in digital innovation to ensure we provide customers with the best possible in-store experience. As well as an excellent wifi service, O2 demonstrated a breadth of IT capability and services, making them the obvious choice to partner with for the next step in our digital evolution.”
Gavin Franks, managing director of O2 WiFi, added: “The Subway brand is another excellent addition to our growing portfolio. The Subway brand is the UK and Ireland’s largest specialist sandwich franchise, specialising in great meals whilst on the go. Many Subway stores have customer seating so we identified the opportunity to help customers connect to the internet, whilst enjoying their food and drink.”
