Study finds that 27% of shoppers have had Christmas gifts go missing in the post

New research has found that 27% of UK shoppers have had Christmas gifts go missing in the post and to avoid disappointment, one in five shoppers have decided not to order Christmas gifts online this year.

According to new research from MyByBox, the average value of each missing gift was found to be £33, equating to £400 million worth of Christmas presents lost.

Of those who had chosen not to order their gifts online this year, 24% feared that gifts would go missing in the post while 23% worried the items would not arrive in time. In addition, 14% did not want to risk loved ones finding items that had arrived in the post.

The research also found that 60% of those surveyed had to travel to their local sorting office to collect missed deliveries, with the average journey taking 25 minutes. To combat this nearly one in five (16%) said they had taken time off work to wait for delivery of a Christmas gift, taking an average 5.5 hours off work in the process.
