Steamer Trading acquires Divertimenti

Cook shop chain Steamer Trading has acquired Divertimenti.

The acquisition includes the flagship Divertimenti store in London’s Knightsbridge, the Divertimenti Cookery School, the brand’s online business and its distribution hub in Worcester. All 21 employees of Divertimenti will join Steamer Trading.

Founded in 1985 by David and Liz Phillips, Steamer Trading is based in Lewes in East Sussex and operates 37 stores across the UK.

Ben Phillips, owner of Steamer Trading Ltd, said “I am delighted to welcome Divertimenti into the Steamer Trading Cookshop family business. We intend to maintain Divertimenti’s presence in Knightsbridge and to nurture this brand which has sold cookware in London for over 50 years.”

Divertimenti’s London store spans two floors on Brompton Road. The site also houses the cookery school.

Sofia Hinkley of Gunnercooke, who advised Steamer Trading on the transaction, said: “Divertimenti’s products and in particular their online presence is highly complementary to Steamer’s existing Housewares business. The acquisition of the prime retail site in Knightsbridge is an exciting move for Steamer. We were very pleased to work with the management teams on this transaction and look forward to seeing what comes next.”
