Start date set for new WH Smith boss

Kate Swan to join retailer on November 1

Kate Swann will join WH Smith as group chief executive at the start of November.
The appointment of Swann to replace Richard Handover was announced in July.
Currently managing director of Argos, Swann will formally take up her new role at a board meeting on November 4 2003, at which current chairman Martin Taylor will be replaced by Handover.
Swann has been managing director of Argos since 2000, and has also worked at Tesco, Dixons and Homebase, as well as Coca-Cola Schweppes.
