SPAR to roll out partner voucher initiative across UK stores

Convenience store group SPAR is to roll out a new partner voucher initiative across its UK stores to help its retailers drive sales.

The roll-out follows a successful pilot last November in partnership with online fashion retailer Very.co.uk. During the pilot SPAR customers were offered a one-week voucher giving them £30 off their first order over £60. Very said the initiative resulted in 400% more redemptions than its preliminary target.

The promoter pays a marketing fee for their vouchers to be distributed by SPAR retailers which are handed to customers with their receipt as part of the payment process.

Adam Margolin, SPAR UK head of marketing, said: “With nearly 2,500 shops across the country generating 15 million transactions from nearly five million customers every week we can offer partners a great route to market. These partnerships offer our retailers a real opportunity to offer customers additional value at the till.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

“With the cost of voucher design, printing and distribution to stores all covered by the promoter, this marks a fantastic opportunity for our retailers to offer additional value to their customers with very limited impact on their store. The development of this promotional voucher programme is also resulting in a new profitable income stream which will be re-invested into strong marketing support for our stores to drive incremental sales.”

The scheme is promoted through retail marketing agency Space in Store. Kevin Whitehouse, business development director at Space in Store, added: “With its extensive coverage of the UK and its reach into market towns and local neighbourhoods, SPAR offers brand partners a fantastic new channel for communicating to millions of customers each week by offering them money-saving offers.

“Vouchers are great for both brands who are already suppliers to SPAR and for brands from other sectors such as clothing and visitor attractions. This is a great opportunity especially around seasonal times such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween and school holidays.”
